Body Mind Programming (BMP) was developed by K. N. Krishnaswamy and Raj Kumar Dham, who also wrote the book Create Your Own Future Through Body Mind Programming. BMP is a self-development and transformation technique that integrates the body and mind to create a deep, holistic change. It focuses on harmonizing the physical body with mental and emotional states to improve one's life outcomes, drawing from the concept that the mind and body are intricately linked and mutually influential.
Differences Between BMP and NLP
Approach:
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming): NLP primarily focuses on how language and thought patterns influence behavior. It studies how people process information, using models to improve communication, personal development, and psychological states by changing thought patterns.
BMP (Body Mind Programming): BMP emphasizes the mind-body connection, suggesting that the body can influence the mind just as much as the mind can affect the body. BMP includes physical and physiological practices in addition to mental reprogramming, making it more of a Holistic Approach. It uses the neuroplasticity of the brain and epigenetics -how behaviors, environment , and life experiences can cause changes in gene expressions. In BMP the programming is done in deepest levels of consciousness -the Beautiful State. Thus we can say BMP is a new paradigm for Neuro Programming.
Programming Focus:
NLP: Focuses largely on the use of language, communication techniques, and mental strategies to change behavior. It primarily targets cognitive and emotional reprogramming through verbal and mental exercises.
BMP: Takes into account the body’s role in shaping the mind and involves physical alignment, breathing, and relaxation techniques. It recognizes that changes in the body can affect mental states, making it more comprehensive than just focusing on mental strategies.
Stages:
NLP: NLP follows models and techniques like anchoring, reframing, and swish patterns to rewire thought processes.
BMP: BMP follows a 7-step method: 1. Preparation 2. Alignment 3. Entry 4. Programming 5. Surrender 6. Exit 7. Follow-up. This structure helps guide individuals into a relaxed state, aligns them physically, and reprograms both the mind and body in unison.
Special Aspects of BMP Compared to NLP and Other Self-Development Techniques:
Holistic Integration: BMP is unique because it integrates both body and mind, unlike NLP, which mostly deals with language and thought processes. BMP recognizes the body as an essential component in creating lasting change, which includes postures, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
Involves the Physical Body: BMP goes beyond mental reprogramming by working on the physiological and biological aspects of the body. By aligning and relaxing the body, it enhances the mind’s ability to be reprogrammed, making it a more comprehensive technique.
Step-by-Step Structure: The 7-step process in BMP is a well-defined structure that helps ease individuals into a deeply relaxed state, aligns them, and then facilitates the programming of new thoughts and beliefs, followed by an exit and follow-up. This structured approach distinguishes it from other techniques, which might be more flexible but less systematic.
Long-Lasting Changes: By involving both mind and body, BMP claims to create more permanent changes. NLP can lead to fast cognitive shifts, but BMP adds physical changes that are said to anchor mental and emotional transformations in a more profound way.
Spiritual and Emotional Components: BMP also incorporates an element of surrender, where individuals are guided to let go of ego-driven control, allowing deeper transformation to take place. This sets it apart from purely cognitive or behavioral models, incorporating emotional and spiritual dimensions into personal growth.
BMP has four special vehicles for bringing the desired transformation- Rhythmic Balance, Pacific Harmony, Goal Implantation, and Nurturing. BMP uses the 'whole brain' . It has three special aids - BMP Screen, BMP Lab, and BMP Guide to make use of the power of imagination. Albert Einstein has said "Imagination is more powerful than knowledge . and Pablo Picasso said " Whatever you imagine is real ". BMP has helped the cancer patients and their care givers in the hospital environment in improving their quality of life and inculcating hope and confidence. BMP based 'I Am The Sky' program in the school has transformed the learning experience for students. By unleashing the potential of young minds," I Am The Sky" has made a significant impact on education and personality development.
Body Mind Programming (BMP) can be a powerful toolkit for creativity, innovation, and transformation because of its holistic approach, which integrates the mind and body to unlock deeper potentials. Here’s how BMP serves as a catalyst for these areas:
1. Enhanced Creative Flow:
Creativity thrives when the mind is calm and the body is relaxed. BMP’s structured process helps individuals enter what is often referred to as "The Beautiful State," a state in which the body is relaxed, and the mind is calm and quiet. This state:
Reduces stress and mental clutter, which are significant blockers to creative thinking.
Opens up mental space, allowing new ideas to flow more freely.
Encourages free-thinking and lateral thinking, critical for innovation.
By systematically aligning the body and quieting the mind, BMP enhances a person’s capacity to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions.
2. Holistic Mind-Body Synergy:
BMP acknowledges that creativity and innovation are not solely mental activities but also involve the body. The tension in the body can lead to mental blocks. BMP’s methods of relaxation, breathing techniques, and postural alignment help:
Release physical and mental tension, thus enhancing both focus and creativity.
Improve mind-body communication, leading to a state where the mind is more receptive to new ideas and innovations.
By using the body as a supportive tool, BMP helps unlock a deeper level of creative potential that traditional cognitive-based techniques may miss.
3. Access to Subconscious Programming:
BMP’s process allows individuals to tap into their subconscious mind, which is a reservoir of untapped potential and creativity. During the reprogramming stages (steps like Entry, Programming, and Surrender), BMP encourages:
The surfacing of intuitive ideas and solutions.
The ability to reframe challenges, making them easier to solve in innovative ways.
The mind to rewire old patterns that may be limiting creative thinking and replace them with new, expansive thought processes.
This deep level of mental reprogramming can open up new realms of creative thinking and innovative ideas.
4. Transformation through Alignment and Surrender:
One unique aspect of BMP is its emphasis on alignment (both body and mind) and surrender. These steps are particularly useful for transforming fixed thinking patterns and opening up to new ways of approaching problems. Here’s how:
Alignment: Physical alignment can help align thoughts and actions. When the body and mind are in sync, individuals experience greater clarity, which is essential for creativity and innovative problem-solving.
Surrender: This step encourages individuals to let go of rigid control and trust in the process. Creativity often requires letting go of preconceived notions and being open to novel possibilities. The act of surrender allows for greater flow and spontaneous ideas to emerge.
5. Structured Toolkit for Innovation:
BMP provides a systematic framework that can be applied to foster creativity and innovation in various fields. Each of the 7 steps in BMP can be seen as tools that guide individuals through the process of transformation:
Preparation: Prepares the mind and body for creativity by grounding and centering the individual.
Alignment: Ensures both the mental and physical states are aligned for optimal performance.
Entry: Enters the subconscious where deeper creativity resides.
Programming: Allows for the implantation of new, creative ideas and innovative thought patterns.
Surrender: Encourages openness to new possibilities.
Exit: Helps individuals integrate their new creative insights into actionable plans.
Follow-up: Ensures that these innovative ideas are sustained and applied.
This structured flow ensures that individuals move systematically from a state of calm and openness to one where creativity can flourish, and innovative solutions can be developed.
6. Transformational Power of BMP:
BMP doesn't just help people generate creative ideas; it helps transform how they approach problems, challenges, and opportunities. It transforms:
Mindsets: By reprogramming old patterns and mental blocks, BMP helps people think more expansively, which is critical for innovation.
Energy Levels: BMP's emphasis on aligning physical energy (through breathing and relaxation techniques) helps increase mental clarity, focus, and creative energy.
Belief Systems: By helping individuals let go of limiting beliefs, BMP creates space for new paradigms that support innovative thinking and creativity.
Why BMP is the Ultimate Toolkit for Creativity, Innovation, and Transformation:
Body-Mind Integration: Unlike many self-development techniques that focus solely on mental strategies, BMP integrates the body and mind, creating a more holistic foundation for creativity.
Systematic Process: The structured 7-step process guides individuals from a state of preparation to creative breakthroughs and transformation, providing a clear path to innovation.
Sustained Innovation: By involving follow-up steps, BMP ensures that the creative ideas generated are not fleeting but are followed through and applied to real-world challenges.
Access to Deeper Consciousness: BMP taps into the subconscious mind, which is often the source of intuitive leaps and creative insights.
Transformation: BMP helps people not only think creatively but transform their entire approach to life and work, making them more adaptive and open to innovation in all areas.
In essence, BMP provides both the framework and the tools for unlocking creativity, driving innovation, and fostering personal transformation in a way that is sustainable and deeply rooted in mind-body synergy.
